Billy Hugh Williams Jr., widely known as “Tappy,” passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 55. He resided in Hazlehurst, MS, but was originally from Jackson, MS.

Early Life and Career

Born on October 27, 1969, to the late Janice Ann Spann and Billy Hugh Williams Sr., Tappy was a proud graduate of Jim Hill High School in Jackson, MS. Following his education, he began his career as a stock clerk and later worked his way up to department manager at Jitney Jungle on Fortification Street in Jackson, where he worked for over 15 years. Tappy continued to work in various other jobs throughout his life, leaving a lasting impression on those he encountered along the way.

Personal Life

Tappy was a man who found joy in the simple things. As a youth he was an avid hunter, especially enjoying hunting small game. His love for cooking and grilling was only rivaled by his infectious ability to keep others laughing and smiling. Whether he was socializing with friends or spending time with family, Tappy’s presence was always felt, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Family

Tappy was preceded in death by three siblings: Derrick Williams, Latranette Sanders, and Emanuel Williams, as well as one nephew, Michael Williams. He leaves behind four children: two sons, Kwame and Kadeem McIntyre of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Markiesha Harris of Houston, TX, and Erica Rogers of Jackson, MS; and one grandchild, MaLiyah Evans.

Tappy is also survived by seven sisters: Sharron “Kitty” Spann of Hattiesburg, MS, Robbie Cane of Nashville, TN, Nora Williams of Brandon, MS, Tranky Joiner Hillard, Norma (Larry) Anderson, and Tiffany Durr, all of Hazlehurst, MS, Chicoagoan (Billyatta) Williams of Phoenix, AZ, and Nicole (Ben) Driver of Portland, TN; one brother, Eric (Ursula) Williams of Hazlehurst, MS; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
