Doris Gibson Guyton, affectionately known as "Dot" was the 11th of 12 children born to the late Charlie Sr. and Myrtle Penn Gibson, Doris entered this life on April 8, 1954 in Terry, MS. Doris peacefully entered eternal rest on December 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
At an early age, Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She was baptized by the late Reverend E.G. Robinson. Doris attended Perryman Elementary, Sumner Hill High and graduated from Terry High School. Doris relocated to Chicago, IL. She met and later married the love of her life, Laclain Guyton, on June 18, 1977. They were married for 31 years until Laclain entered eternal rest in 2008.
For many years, Doris worked at Walmart in the Chicago area, serving in many capacities. To Dot, it was never jus a job; it was an opportunity to brighten someone's day. Doris welcomed generations of families, turning a simple shopping trip into a moment of genuine connection.
After the death of her husband in 2008, Doris relocated back to Mississippi to be closer to her mother, the late Myrtle Penn Gibson. Once home, Doris and dear friend, Susan Chandler, helped organize and promote the Terry Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. They spent countless hours volunteering and supporting the firefighters with community events, fundraisers and donations used for the fire department, citizens and the children and the Town of Terry.
While in Chicago, Doris joined Monroe Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Caliph C. Wyatt Jr. on January 6, 2013. She was a member of the Monroe Choir known as Voices of Inspirational Praise (VIP). Doris was a faithful member of the church and loved being a part of the Monroe family. In her spare time, Doris worked in the community helping in different areas and preparing her famous potato salad for her loved ones.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Sr. and Myrtle Penn Gibson, her husband, Laclain Guyton; two sisters, Clara Fairley and Edna Brim; one brother, JC Gibson; one nephew, Andrew Gibson; three great nephews, Brandon Herod, Antonio and Michael Harper and two great nieces, Nicole Harper and Celelita Gibson.
Doris leaves to cherish her memories: her sisters, Bessie Gibson White(Evanston, IL), Gertrude McGruder and Earnestine Harper(Terry, MS), Lula Gunn(Chicago, IL) and Mozella (Willie) Jackson (Jacksonville, FL). Three brothers; Charlie Gibson, Jr.(Chicago, IL) John(Margaret) Gibson and Willie Ray(Geralean)Gibson (Terry, MS), one sister-in-law, Iris Gibson(Terry, MS) A special nephew whom she considered her son, Michael A. Gibson, Sr. and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
