Edward Ayers

A LIFE OF SERVICE

Corporal Edward Ayers Sr. (Rock) was born on September 26, 1949, in Crystal Springs, MS, to the late Mary Lee Coleman and William Ayers Sr.

He departed this life on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

He joined Egypt Hill M.B. Church at an early age. He attended William H. Holtzclaw School and graduated in the class of 1967.

He served in the United States Marine Corps for two years and was honorably discharged on May 4, 1975. He also served as a sergeant for more than twenty years in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Edward Sr. was a veteran of the Vietnam War as well as the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm). While serving in Operation Desert Storm, he was a member of the Commander in Chief's personal security detail. His dedication and vigilance ensured the safety and security of the Commander in Chief throughout the course of the Gulf War.

Because of his outstanding service, Corporal Ayers was adorned with many accolades including a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, and a Rifle Marksman Badge.

On December 2, 1970, he married Velma Mack and to this union three children were born: a daughter, Cametra Ayers, and two sons, Edward Jr. and William Ayers.

Edward lived with courage, integrity, and a deep commitment to serving others. He loved to hunt and fish. He loved working on his trucks and helping others. He worked for Kuhlman Electric/Abb for over forty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Mary Lee Coleman and William Ayers Sr.; two brothers: William Ayers Jr. and Johnny Coleman; and a great grandson, Corrion Ighadi.

Edward leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 55 years, Velma Mack Ayers; daughters: Cametra Ayers Barber (Don), Tasia Glasper, Hope Roberts (Dwan); sons: Edward Ayers Jr. (Charmain), William Ayers (Karen), and Jarvis Robinson (Jackie). He also leaves fourteen (14) grandchildren, seventeen (17) great grandchildren; five (5) sisters-in-law; six (6) brothers-in-law, and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
