Rakavious Germayle Claiborne was born November 5, 1920, to the late Mr. John Henry and Miss Frances Claiborne.
Rakavious' love for education made him become a mentor for his young relatives and fellow friends in the community.
Rakavious attended Crystal Springs High Schoolwhere he graduated as Salutatorian in 2001.
After graduating from Crystal Springs High School, he furthered his education at Alcorn State University. Obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, Rakavious graduated Summa Cum Laude.
In 2007, he attended Kent State UNiversity in Kent, OH, where he received his Master of Arts in Teaching. After receiving his master's degree, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he taught at Forestville Military Academy.
Rakavious soon traveled abroad to teach in abu Dhabi through the United Arab Emirates Council, where he taught English.
After 6 years of teaching overseas, he returned to the United States, settling in Georgia, where he taught in the Atlanta Public School System at George Washington Carver Early College High School.
In 2004, Rakavious returned home and became a teacher at Oakley Training School in Raymond, MS, until his earthly departure.
Rakavious was preceded in death by his mother and father, nephew, and grandparents. Also, preceding him were several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Rakavious leaves to cherish his memories of his daughter, Yakera "Turkey" Claiborne; brothers LaPedrick Claiborne and Jewett Gary; and sister Geritza Gary.
He leaves behind 5 aunts and 5 uncles: Faye D. Pickett (Claiborne), Roy Williams (Sandra), Sandra Powell, Teresa Simon, Randy Williams (Laura), Leviticus Williams (Tausha), and Leroy Williams. He was a Big brother to Cervetta (Veetie) Johnson, FranTreasea (Fathead) Evans, and Corencia (Fatbaby) Mackey and his best friend, Lakeith Benson.
He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and knowledge to family and friends.
